As night wakens and shadows invite us into rest and contemplation, turn our hearts to the stories of the prophets, the ones who spoke of changes few of us would appreciate or wish to endure, the ones who recalled us to mercy for mercy’s sake, the ones who turned us back to singing in awe and giving thanks. When what we’ve taken for granted is gone, when our work seems to come to naught, when we are estranged and struggling, let us come into the garden of prayer and rest upon the mercy seat. Attend the change from day to night, the pace, the sounds, the waking of the citizens of night, the sleepiness of the citizens of day, and let the wonder without words carry us home to hope. Amen.

This gave me solace tonight. Thank you.
