Beloved though the way before us for peace is neither always or often apparent, though hatred and vengeance and bigotry can grow thickly and densely in our hearts and in our institutions, though we would falter and turn aside, you call us onward to making peace real. You call us onward to transform these thickets of jealousy and intrigues of power into vibrant densities of mercy and generous care. You call us onward to muddle along and innovate and risk faithfully, learning from our failures, and turning back again to this work of making peace, mercy, and love real, everywhere in every season. You call us onward to encourage one another along the way, sharing stories and songs of courage, holding each other through the failures and dancing together when victories for love, peace, and mercy are achieved. Beloved, the way before us may not be easy, but it is ours to create, answering your steadfast call. May we abide for love's sake. Amen.
