For Mothers' Day
Blessed are the creators, the sustainers, the ones who know just what to say when things go wrong, the ones who teach love by example night after night and day after day, the ones who make it okay to risk, fail, learn and try again. Blessed are the heart's caretakers, the givers, the sharers, the nurturers, the teachers, the ones patient enough to show us how to keep a box score or diagram a sentence yet again, the ones who share the thrill of great stories and seek to understand the music we love. Blessed are the mercy makers, the ones who give even when weary, the ones who encourage us to know our selves and to be able to say "no" in order that we can say "yes" to what matters. Blessed are the ones who guide even when they themselves are feeling their way forward, the ones who lend us courage even when they are unsure, the ones whose vulnerabilities and imperfections teach us to accept our own and even find in them strength. Blessed are these and so many more, the ones who parent, the kin of heart and choice as much as blood and social recognition. Blessed are these, for their blessings guide us, teach us, cheer us, and nurture us all our years. Let us give thanks for them, now and always. Amen.
