The world seems full of failures. Wisdom, if we must fail, teach us to fail faithfully and well. The world has an abundance of hatred and misdirected fear. If we must meet hatred and awful fear, help us discover new hopes and creative, just and merciful responses. The world is ripe with misunderstanding and mistrust. If we must struggle with misunderstanding and mistrust, sustain us in the difficult work of seeking understanding, of repairing and rebuilding relationship, of making new relationships that bear good fruits we can neither know now nor imagine. Wisdom, all our lives we will face disappointment, distraction, hatred, fear, mistrust, misunderstanding, and failures. Hold us and help us hold each other lovingly, kindly, and generously as we wrestle these persistent problems and discover the answers that build peace, that cherish diversity, that create a world in which we would actually like to live. Amen.
