When so much chaos and disorder threatens to overwhelm, when our sense of helplessness exceeds our sense of being able to do anything helpful, Beloved turn our attention to what is reliable, what continues to work through all this turmoil. Let us give thanks for gravity that by sticking us somewhat to the earth lets us go places and explore right where we are and curl up together for comfort. Let us give thanks for words of kindness and encouragement that help us stick out the tough times and stick together come what may. Let us give thanks for the beauty that is resilient, returning after destruction, greening and renewing hope. Let us give thanks for the love that calls us forth every day, to risk faithfully for mercy, for justice, for peace, for one another, for ourselves, for this earth. Far from truly helpless, may we remember what is reliable and strive to be part of that force which makes the world more loving, more kind, more just, and more whole. Amen.
