Wisdom and Mercy, what does it take to build and sustain a beloved community? Help us sweep out our lingering resentments and heal those old grievances, and carry on with greater understanding of what real forgiveness means and also real responsibility, that we truly are in this life together, belonging one to another and to this earth. Wisdom and Mercy, help us forgive and accept responsibility that we may live in beloved community. Remind us of the joy that can tumble into being from our imperfections, and help us accept each other in our quirks and individual passions, with our differing and often alien gifts, and know that mistakes happen and we can fail forward, learning as we go. Wisdom and Mercy, help us keep learning and learn to cherish our imperfections as much as our good gifts that we may live in beloved community. Help us remember when we have disappointed others and when they have disappointed us and know that doing so and not carving these disappointments into cudgels and chains frees us to risk faithfully together, to risk loving one another, to risk creating what is needful and good. Wisdom and Mercy, help us risk faithfully by risking disappointing each other and ourselves and offering each other encouragement, not grief, to keep risking faithfully that we may live in beloved community. Prepare us for the daily labors and the daily joys of community, and may we render this world more beloved day by day. Amen.
