Wisdom, sometimes I find it difficult to meet you, especially when it comes to mercy, to the generosity of spirit and word and deed that turns us toward hope, builds peace, and challenges and changes us for love's sake. When I find myself grumbling over some inconvenience, some obstacles or challenge in my anticipated and expected way, may I remember: mercy is rarely in the convenient places. When I find myself tense and irritable over some way of being, my own or someone else's, may I remember: mercy is a kindness for us both. When I am angry about injustice and cannot be done with my anger even when merciful justice is restored and restoration is underway, may I remember: mercy is a blessing for the just and the unjust and turns us all towards hope. For love's sake, may I remember mercy, the generosity of spirit and word and deed that turns me toward hope, brings me to peace and the work of making peace, and challenges and changes me, tonight and always. Amen.
