How easy it is to hide ourselves in the flurry of our days, to submerge in task lists that wrap and chain our hearts and our senses, so that we struggle to remember gladness and to stop still in awe and wonder and to risk loving so boldly we know the difference between what feels urgent and what is truly needful for goodness' sake! How easy it is to hide ourselves in the flurry of our days and then feel weary with guilt about those we have passed by, the ones we might have welcomed, the refuge we might have offered, the kindness we might have shown! Merciful Love when we fail like this, help us stop at the next moment and lean back toward our better selves, to go ahead and be kind and be a little later, to be generous and to remember our real priorities. Merciful Love lead us away from the failure to forgive and into risking faithfully to forgive and to restore one another in community, in care, in keeping with the mercy we ourselves would like to enjoy and that so many of us fear we do not deserve. Merciful Love settle us down in the flurry of our days, to reapportion our tasks so that we free our hearts and our senses and know gladness and wonder in every day. Merciful Love draw us back into the dance of life that we may risk loving so boldly we forgive, we make amends, we reach out to create trust and be trustworthy, we carry on courageously every night and every day to make peace and hope and love real. Amen.
