Love lead us beyond self-seeking and self-promotion, selfishness and also self-loathing. Lead us into the heart of compassion, where we can discern what is good and what hurts, what helps and what heals, and make better choices day by day. Love lead us beyond arrogance and boasting, around the defensive actions that wall us off from one another and leave us isolated in towers of self-congratulation and dread of others. Lead us into the heart of compassion, where we may learn to risk trusting even though sometimes our trust fails or proves unwise, where we may learn to be trustworthy even though we yet live in a world of suspicion, enmity, and fear. Love lead us beyond false pride and into acceptance, beyond envy and into gratitude, beyond resentment and into surprising joy. Lead us into the heart of compassion, where hope is revived, where peace is nurtured, where we are recalled to our best selves and how to make a better world. Amen.
