Merciful Love guide our speech, and so guide our deeds. Merciful Love guide our speech, that we may imagine and speak into being cooperation for a kinder and more just world, that we may sing songs of joy and of mourning together so that no one is alone in celebration or grief, that we may quest for what is true and what is right and what is needful for us to do apart and together. Merciful Love guide our speech, and so guide our deeds. When we find ourselves caught up in the whirlwind of harmful words, of stories that sanction hatred and that encourage us to hard-heartedness, of words that hurt others and slice apart lives, Merciful Love recall us to our better selves, to the courage and strength needed to choose a different way, where we stop and protect others from harm, where we confront hatred with love and our own hardening of heart with a deliberate opening of the door to mystery and wonder. Merciful Love guide our speech, and so guide our deeds. When we meet some juicy story, may we pause before taking it to heart and passing it along, about consider not only truth, but also kindness, and whether it is truly necessary to pass what can be a foul breath along, and if it is harmful, or untrue, or unkind, or stinks then may we drop that story where it belongs, no longer in circulation, and choose better words. Merciful Love guide our speech, and so guide our deeds, in this day and every day. Amen.
