The mystery of generosity is great indeed. Mercy water our hearts that we may be surprised each morning waking to greater warm-heartedness and an urge to be kinder to the people who most try us, who shower us with invective, who stubbornly and persistently castigate and deny us welcome and friendship. Let our hearts not be hardened into imitations of generosity and lovingkindness, but stay tender, setting forth new hope each and every day, seeking to create new blessings each and every day. The mystery of generosity is great indeed. Mercy, by generosity we ourselves have been changed, drawn out from our frightened walled-off places, drawn back into the gift of hope that happens with true giving and true receiving, with taking the risk to be human, to be vulnerable, to tend to each other the best we can, imperfectly but whole-heartedly, boldly and steadfastly. The mystery of generosity is great indeed. Mercy water our hearts that we may wake surprised each morning, growing more loving, more generous, more able and more willing to reach out kindly and compassionately toward those who have never shown us anything but scorn, expecting and encouraging change for mercy's sake, and to keep steadfastly on this path until the world knows peace. Amen.
