In the darkness of brief days and longer nights, may we find and offer one another comfort, shelter from inclement weather and from unkindness and cruelty. Merciful Justice, facing the bleakness and blight of hatred personalized, inherited, or institutional, may we find and offer one another a light of hope, a light of endurance, a light of resilience that helps us carry on ending the hatred through love's creative ways. In the darkness of brief days and longer nights, when so many struggle greatly, may we find and offer one another respite and welcome, a cheering song and a courageous heart, and all the help that is needed to make it on through. Merciful Justice, facing the cold discomfort of callousness and cruelty, may we answer steadfastly, skillfully, and lovingly by living more generously than seems prudent, easing the load others are bearing, and sharing all that is good and joyful and sweet. Amen.
