As we turn once again into the earth's shadow and others turn into the light of the sun, as our day ends and another's begins, turn our hearts to the love that holds us, calls us, challenges us, and changes us. Mercy of Mercies there is plenty of sorrow; we need not add to it. May we instead comfort those who are mourning, and if we are in that number, discover the mercy of being with others who grieve. Mercy of Mercies there is plenty of suffering; we need not add to it. May we ease what suffering of others that we can, tending this earth and one another with greater reverence and care. As we turn from day to night and night today, may we remember that we all have struggles and do what we can to ease them for each other. May we remember that we all know pain, and do what we can to ease that for each other and help one another endure. May we remember that we share this life, this earth, this human experience, and also this common calling to help, to love mightily, to live wholeheartedly all our days and nights. Amen.
