Beloved, for those of us who have fought to have our voices, to be able to share what it is we think and feel rather than lock it down, deny it, and turn away from fear, help us embrace the relief of silence that is chosen, that is a refuge, the silence that neither smothers nor negates, but enlarges, drawing us deeper and more fully into the ways Love can move in this world. Help us embrace the silence of presence, when we are with another just because we need to be, or it is good to be, silent and in the moment, watching stars as we rocket through space, breathing in the green scent of life, attentive to the voice of the world and our hearts at the same time. Because once we struggled to have a voice, silence and its healing may feel impossible: Beloved, lead us through the impossible to the possible, to the healing properties of a good silence, a silence that eases fears and soothes irritation, silence that renews and restores and counters the incessant rush of so many of us afraid to stop, to be quiet, to make peace for even a few moments. Beloved, hold back that which threatens the soft wings of our hearts as we learn to appreciate silence, and in the silence meet holiness once again. Amen.
