Lover of Life teach us each night and each day how to love so boldly and steadfastly we do not turn away from tragedy and injustice, but find ourselves seized by compassion to do what we can do, whether comforting those who grieve or working to right wrongs or insisting on changing what is broken. Teach us to love so boldly that we feel no shame weeping for what is sad and laughing generously with what is joyful. Teach us to love so boldly that we find the generosity to risk opening our homes and hearts to each other, knowing every stranger as a neighbor, making refuge and welcome to those in need, whether for a few minutes and a cup of hope or for a longer sojourn to rebuild and reconstruct a life. Lover of Life teach us each night and each day how to love so boldly and steadfastly that we meet joy and make joy and cultivate joy in our communities, in our hearts, and everywhere in our world. Loving boldly is risky and there will be failures and disappointments, anger and pain, struggle and disappointment. But from this we draw up our courage, quaff a cup of home, and carry on with what is needful and good, loving more boldly than seems prudent and certainly more boldly than is easy, now and always. Amen.
