In the tangled and troubled places, we know we need courage to carry on.We pray for it. We feel no shame about yearning for greater courage then. In the cold and bitter places, we know we need courage to carry on. We pray for it. We feel no shame about yearning for greater courage then. Beloved, we need courage, too, for the easier places, the times that are sweeter and full of choices between good and good. May we cultivate greater courage in every time and place, becoming more and more able to choose well, choosing the better good when choosing between good and good, choosing to share and bless and strive to be more loving, to be more mercifully just, to be more forgiving, to be more generous, wherever we are. Whether it seems like a time we need courage or one we do not, may we cultivate courage to move past the obvious and the easy into the extraordinary, to be intensely vulnerable and intensely loving for these qualities cannot truly be separated. Beloved, we need great courage to live vibrantly and fully and well, to seek the good and to make virtues real in our communities and our world. May we cultivate courage and help each other with what we have, finding new strength to be brave together, in the rough and in the gentle, in the tangled and troubled place, the cold and bitter places, and the sweet and splendid places. Cultivating courage, may we stretch past what is easy and comfortable to do the necessary and the better good, to be vulnerable and to risk for love's sake, day after day. Amen.
