Beloved, help us get started. Help us get started again after we have reached a halt, ground down to stillness and can't move again on our own, finding ourselves going through life's motions, miming a life but not really living one. Help us get started again after we have failed and we're still aching from the bellyflop we took in our life and we're not sure we should move a muscle or even can. Help us get started with the work of forgiveness when we're awake in the middle of the night and at dawn and spending time tending our resentments and anger and hurts rather than loving as fully as we are able and risking the discomfort of becoming someone different. Beloved, help us get started. It is so easy to distract ourselves, so easy to be caught up in the things that do not help but are at least known and feel a little safer. Help us get started risking and undertaking the heavy work of living, the stuff that begins with showing up and trying with others to create resilient and healthy communities, the stuff that begins with showing up and tending to the grief and the fear and the hunger that is right here and right now, the stuff that begins with showing up and fumbling our way toward skill and wisdom. Beloved, help us get started, and once started on what is needful for goodness' sake, help us keep going to bring the garden of our lives to wonderment and thankfulness and flowering joy. Amen.
