For International Women's Day
Wisdom and Wonder let us give thanks for nearly half the world, and especially for those who worked for and those who still work to make equality between all people in law and practice real. All of us imperfect, may we stop ascribing to whole groups of humanity particular failings or particular strengths, and seek instead to labor together in creating a world of dignity for all, a world where all truly have the opportunity to share their gifts for goodness' sake, to offer their wisdom and to learn the wisdom of others, to dance with wonderment and use their hearts and minds and hands to delve into mysteries and deliver knowledge. Wisdom and Wonder lead us in giving thanks for nearly half the world, and in giving thanks for women, may we appreciate all the peoples of the world better, all the genders and all the ethnicities and all the cultures that enliven us and gift us and still have their own troubles. May we give thanks for all these imperfect people living lives rich with failing as well as succeeding -- laughing, loving, giving, receiving, making, doing, resting, worshipping, thinking, speaking, singing, dancing -- all these people being with all their hearts and hopes and dreams. May we bless one another, stranger and friend, out of gratitude for the gifts for goodness each and all of us have, and may we use those gifts well and make way for all to use their gifts well, day after day. Amen.
