What are these promises yet unfulfilled that call to us, as faithful gardeners of the spirit and of this world? Wonder of Wonders grant that we may grow a little more faithfully, a little more courageously together today, to answer what remains unfulfilled. We have made promises of mercy and compassion for all; let us keep on then, with the work of ensuring a merciful justice system, of caring for the needy, of living fully knowing our own vulnerability and being generous with others. We have made promises of equality and dignity for all; let us keep on then, with undoing our stereotypes and biases, our fearfulness and our stony-heartedness, and really get to know all our neighbors, like and unlike us, exiles, wanderers, thieves, bigots, homebodies, artists, elders, peeps, youth, family, and friends. We have made promises of tending and caring for all of life; let us keep on then, with healing and repairing this earth, of restoring the devastated places, of cherishing these ecosystems which make life good and worthy and possible. We have made so many faithful promises that are yet unfulfilled. May we abide in those promises, and be steadfast in the faithful work that is and wonders that will be. Amen.
